“The key to success in life is to win more than you lose in everything you do - each rep, each play, each battle. Play to win each and every time”

The University of Portsmouth Destroyers are a proud BUCS American Football programme competing in Division 1.

The “U” first caught the attention of the Britball nation by pulling off the biggest upset in BUAFL history by beating the two time reigning champion Birmingham Lions by 20-19 in the final to win their first National Championship in 2011. The Destroyers also set a BUCS American Football record for most consecutive wins (19) spanning from November 2015 to March 2016, resulting in two back to back promotions.

Founded in 2006 by Coach Russ Hewitt, the University of Portsmouth Destroyers have gone on to build a reputation as a physical, competitive football team. Portsmouth Destroyers Alumni have routinely gone on to represent their country, play abroad semi-professionally and win National Championships at the BAFA Premiership Senior Level - we prepare players to play anywhere.

American Football is a sport which will help prepare you for your future, as it emphasises the importance of teamwork whilst developing both a strong work ethic and leadership skills. Alumni of the team have gone on to fantastic successes both on and off the field and several former players now give back to the club through coaching and financial support.
